Bay Creek Railway

The Dining Car is a stunning example of an Interurban car (meaning it served urban areas, designed as a street car) used around 1915-1940.

Structure and Features
The car is self-propelled (not pulled by a locomotive), and is smaller than today’s traditional passenger cars measuring 9 ft. wide and 53 ft. long.* The exterior is painted a deep green with gold accents and red trim. Original rivets, joints, and hinges were restored and reused where ever possible. Tables and seating were installed to accommodate 30 diners, and a kitchen for meal preparation was outfitted in the rear so passengers can enjoy fresh cuisine.

Style Inside
Bay Creek Resort and Club closely managed the restoration of the car. All of the interior features are new, and chosen for their vintage inspired style. New stained glass arches and brass-fitted windows were also installed in the restoration and set off the natural wood inside the cabin beautifully. The carpet is an art deco pattern of ferns and foliage made popular in the early 1900's. The table setting is upscale with porcelain plates, glass goblets and tumblers, heavy silverware, fabric napkins, and is already set upon passegenger boarding.

Comfort
Overhead air conditioners were installed in the summer of 2009 and keep everyone comfortable on those hot summer days. The units also provide warmth during the colder months. The restroom onboard is much like an airplane restroom, as space is limited on the car.

*Special note: The dining car is a vintage restored vehicle with limited space, and unfortunately cannot accommodate wheel chairs or walkers. A limited number of baby strollers can be stowed. If there are any questions about special needs it is best to call the railway office in advance.
